Benalmadena consists of three distinct, yet different areas. ‘Benalmadena pueblo’ is a typical white Andalucian village with charming tree-lined streets set on the side of the hill. To the east, ‘Arroya de la Miel’ is the business centre of Benalmadena also offering tourist attractions and to the south Benalmadena Costa, the coastal stretch provides 7kms of sandy beaches and coves catering for the more discerning beach and bar holiday maker. At the centre of the Costa, ‘Puerto Deportivo’ (the port) is located. It provides a thousand moorings, 200 shops bars and restaurants and a luxury apartment complex, with Andalucian, Arabian and Indian influences in its construction. Throughout the whole of the region Benalmadena offers a wide variety of cuisine; from gourmet restaurants to the more relaxed chiringuitos catering for families with young children. BR>There are many local attractions, these include; ‘Tivoli World’, an amusement park offering a wide selection of rides and water attractions and live performances from international artists. ‘Teleferica’ is a cable car that takes you to the top of the Calamorro mountain which, at 750m above sea level, offers stunning views of the coastline below. The ‘Proyecto Olimpo’ is an ambitious sports project offering track and field events. Although the Costa Del Sol offers an abundance of golf courses, the closest is ‘Torrequebrada’.* La Poloma Park has more then 200,000 square meters of stunning gardens overlooking the sea. Selwo Marina, a theme park with dolphins, sea lions and eagles is located next to La Poloma Park. The sea life centre is a chance to amaze your eyes with hundreds of tropical species including moray eels, jelly fish, sea horses and more than 200 species of shark from all around the world. At the entrance to Benalmadena village, the museum “Arqueologico exhibits pre-Columbian sculptures and ceramics from Mexico and Central America. The stunning Colamares Castle is a monument to Christopher Columbus, whilst those seeking peace and meditation can visit the beautiful Buddhist – “The Enlightenment Stupa”. Reputedly the largest in Europe. Although Benalmadena works towards its future with passion and dedication it does not forget its past. Benalmadena is a lively resort meeting place for the Malaga youth, tourists and visitors. |
