Guadalmina golf course is in fact two 18 hole courses, one known as the North course and the other is the South course, and both are par 72. The architect of the first course was Javier Arana and for the North course Folco Nardi who, up until his death, lived in the villa at the 4th tee on the South course. Guadalmina opened as a 9 hole course in 1959. It was extended to 18 holes in the late 1960s. The North Course opened in 1972, and it is more gentle than the South Course with undulating fairways, fast greens, rough range, more water obstacles, and quite tight in places. The South course is perfect for experienced golfers because of its difficulty. The ranges are wide without rough and water and meanders toward the sea, with tree lined fairways.
In 1992 Guadalmina became the biggest golf establishment on the Costa del Sol by constructing a 9-hole-par-3 course.
