The Museo Picasso is a new museum devoted to the most influential artist of the 20th century.
Pablo Picasso (1881 – 1973) was born in Malaga and as an artist he became an innovator of styles and techniques who changed the course of modern art.
The Collection has more than 200 works by Picasso from the private collections of his daughter-in-law and grandson. Their generous donation and long term loans led to the creation of the Museo Picasso Malaga. The collection shows his wide range of styles, materials and techniques that he used.
Palacio de Buenavista
The main building of the museum, which holds the collection, is a national monument. A beautiful example of 16th century Andalusian architecture, the Palace was built between 1516 and 1542 by Diego de Cazalla. It is located in the old quarter of the city. It was carefully renovated to allow the structural changes but allowing the buiding´s historic details to be preserved. A history of Malaga´s past lies underneath the palace as excavations have revealed significant ruins from Malaga´s Phoenician, Roman, Moorish and Renaissance periods.
